Having served his time as a bricklayer Douglas became a building contractor in 1990 establishing Douglas Hughes Developments Ltd. Since this time he has built hundreds of houses aswell as agricultural sheds & commercial buildings. In the early 2000’s the company moved into property development focusing primarily on high end country homes. Concentrating on quality rather than quantity this added to an already strong reputation for quality workmanship, producing comfortable and practical family homes.

The 2007 financial crisis drastically decrease residential building, whilst this remained it’s primary service the company also diversified, moving into house refurbishment, groundworks and expanding on its commercial building element.
In recent years the company has also found success in offering a septic tank installation service due to regulatory changes, consent to discharge has become an issue for many homeowners who appreciate a trusted installer who can offer an “all in one” service.

Another more recent service is the supply and fitting of custom granite surrounds, steps and cills. Having worked extensively with granite over the years DHD are in an excellent position to advise and supply clients who have an interest in a custom piece.
